Amazon introduces new Kindle Fire coins

14 May

Jeff has been the owner of a Kindle Fire since shortly after they first came out a year and a half ago. So, he is use to getting e-mails from the Seattle-based company telling him about the latest deals that Amazon is offering on apps, ebooks and new products for the Kindle. This morning he was a little surprised when opening the latest piece of e-mail from Amazon and reading that he had just received

the following e-mail:
“as a thank you for being a Kindle Fire owner, we have given you 500 Amazon Coins (a $5 value) for free. Use them to shop for premium apps and games on the Amazon Appstore for Android. “

Curious to find out more about these new Amazon coins Jeff went to the company’s web site. On the home page of the web site there was a letter from the founder & CEO Jeff Bezos explaining more about the new coins. In he also mentions that every Kindle Fire owner will be receiving the same 500 coins worth $5 dollars in the appstore.

“Today we are giving Kindle Fire owners $5 worth of Coins to spend on new apps and games, or to purchase in-app items, such as recipes in iCookbook, song collections in SongPop or mighty falcon bundles in Angry Birds Star Wars. And with discounts of up to 10% when you buy Coins, this is a great way for customers to save money when they buy apps, games and in-app items,” said Mike George, Vice President of Apps and Games at Amazon/ in a press release. “We will continue to add more ways to earn and spend Coins on a wider range of content and activities—today is Day One for Coins.”

After reading the letter Jeff went to the page for the new coins. They can be purchased in blocks of 500, 1000, 2500, 5000 and 10000. The savings range from 4% on the smaller block to 10% on the largest bock. It might not sound like much but if you are someone that buts lots of apps or in-game items the savings will add up.
