Amazon dribbles out a little more on the new Kindle Fires

1 Aug

Earlier this month Jeff told you about some leaked information about the next version of Amazon’s Kindle Fire family of tablets. The talk then was mainly focused on the updated display resolution that will give Amazon push the display on the 8.9′ HD past Apple’s retina display on the 9.7′ iPad. Yesterday, In another exclusive, Internet technology blog BGR reported some more information on what we can expect from the Seattle-based e-commerce giant.

This time the focus was more on features specifically the internal storage, memory, operating system and cameras. It looks as though the storage capacity will be staying the same as its current 16, 32 and 64 GB options, The memory will be boosted up two 2 GB, the will run on Amazon’s modified version of Android 4.2.2 jelly bean operating system and both sizes of Kindle Fire will have front facing cameras but only the 8.9” HD version will come with an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera.

It is a certainty that the new Kindle Fire HDs will still have the the same cloud-based browser the first two versions had. We can also count on still getting a free month of the Prime network when we set up our accounts. Other features like freetime, game circle and the recently introduced Kindle coins will more than likely stay on the new versions of the tablet.

The fact that Jeff Bezos is allowing this information to leak is unusual for the CEO & founder who has usually been tight lipped about any new items. Perhaps this is a sign that Mr. Bezos is taking a page out of Apple’s book of generating interest by letting out just enough information to make customers want more and also wonder if these feature might even exceed what we have been told.

Two things that are still unknown are the release date and what the price will be for the tablets. It is fair to assume that they will be close to the current prices. As for the release it will most likely be sometime in late October or November so that it will be hitting the shelves right on time for the holiday shopping when it gets underway.
