Starbucks gets more mobile friendly

12 Jun

In today’s mobile society one of the worse scenarios is that you are on the road, need to use your smartphone only to find the battery is either low or dead and you don’t have your charger. You panic and wonder what to do next. If you live around Boston or San Francisco the answer is go to Starbucks. You are probably saying right now but that is a coffee shop.
Seattle-base Starbucks has been conducting test with Durecell Powermats for quite sometime in Boston and today they are adding San Francisco. Soon they are planning to install these charging pads in all of their coffee shops across the country. In the coffee shops in these areas that are part of the test customer will be able to simply go inside and place their mobile device on the pads to charge.
“We are thrilled to offer our customers that next level of convenience with Powermat wireless charging. Rather than hunting around for an available power outlet, they can seamlessly charge their device while enjoying their favorite food or beverage offering right in our stores,” said Adam Brotman, chief digital officer at Starbucks. “We were pleased with the customer response to the pilot tests, and we’re now expanding this offering nationally to provide our customers a quality and reliable experience as they use our stores as their respite, their office away from home or as a gathering place with their friends and family.”
Unfortunately, not all devices are compatible with the Powerpads and will require either a special case, external battery or some other compatible adapter. For a list of compatible smartphones you can check the Qinside site. One of the most notable absences is the iPhone that does require a special case.
