Has NASA created a wrap drive?

29 Apr

Many of the technologies that Gene Roddenberry talked about when he created “Star Trek” in the mid 1960’s have come into reality. We now have cellphones, personal computers, hyposprays, various scanning devices much like the tricorder, computer tablets and more. Now, NASA might have given us the warp drive that powered the U.S.S Enterprise.

A letter that was posted on the NASA Space Flight blog suggest that traveling above the speed of light could be a reality in the near future. In the post they talk about how the Emdrve has created a warp bubble that allowed the particles from a laser travel faster than the speed of light when fired into its resonance chamber.

Seems a bit premature to be worried about these issues, when we don’t even have a proven and accepted theory of how the devices EagleWorks are researching will work. So from my perspective I would have to say these concerns do not matter, because at this point in the research we “don’t know what we don’t know”,” one blog member birchoff points out. He goes on to add, “We have no clue if the effect we are seeing is actually what we think it is, until further experiments are done. So the real question for me is, other than re running the test under vacuum. What other tests can we run to further enhance our understanding of what is going on.”

The thought that sometime in the near future we could use this technology to go to Mars, Saturn or other planets inside or outside of our own galaxy is quite exciting. To bring us back to Earth, no pun intended, we need to remember that even if that further testing does come out with positive we shouldn’t get to excited since it will probably be several years before a warp field on the scale needed to propel a large space craft.
